Hi there.

Welcome to this little place I've found on the interwebs to journal my lovely and creatively chaotic life.

This picture of me was taken by a dear friend and amazing artist Britt Van Deusen

Badass Money Maker

Badass Money Maker

A friend over the weekend shared that she was reading, "You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth." How could I resist a title like that? Quick redemption of an Audible Credit and BOOM, I too am a badass at making money!

Jen Sincero, the author, talks about her path out of a life that was stagnant and unfulfilling and into into a life full of abundance through an action oriented mindset that uses money as the energy currency by which she creates her life. Yep >> I'm hooked.

I decided to try a new 10-minute Tibetan monk chant meditation on Insight Timer. Their voice was deep and grounding. The background music calming. It was the message I heard that really surprised me, "I make money. I make all money. More money. I make money," ....and on and on.

I don't speak Burmese or whatever language they were singing in, so my English speaking brain turned their chant words into something my brain could digest. How cool are our minds???!!!??

Since listening to old Jospeh Campbell audio books while painting my whole house white on the inside the summer of 2011 when my life was falling apart and coming back together, this "universal consciousness" idea has been a lens by which I view my life.  The idea that everything around us is energy, and it's all about the give and take of this flowing energy between living things. The constant transfer of energy that we share as a connected consciousness. (Yes, hippie dippie and "woo-woo," but I swear real and powerful + thank you Kevin, wherever you are, for coming to Richmond and helping me paint and just supporting me in the hard times -- I miss you.)

Anyway, "I love money because money...(you fill in the blank)," is one of Sincero's mantras. Simple and clear. Full of positivity and openness. I keep saying it out loud and putting more and more specifics around what that means to me and the life I create with the endless flow of money that abounds me, as well as talking David's ear off about how it's time to really begin creating ideas we've been developing together for what will be 15 years of marriage this Thursday, June 21, 2018.

I keep focusing on, "I love money because money helps me create a meaningful life."  While I'm listening to "You're a Badass At Making Money," I'm currently reading "The Power of Meaning - Finding fulfillment in a world obsessed with happiness," by Emily Esfahani Smith. (Thanks for the book, Dad!)

She winds you through her personal background, examples over the centuries of the constant search to understand the meaning of life and through suicide statistics and current psychiatric research to share what she believes are the four pillars of meaningfulness: belonging, purpose, storytelling, and transcendence.

Emily points out clearly how a happy life and meaningful life do not always align. And she gives examples of these pillars emerging in social sciences research on how people can achieve meaningfulness, as well as in works of philosophy, literature, religion and popular culture -- in Buddhist teachings, in American Transcendentalism, in novels and films.

I've just kicked off the "Belonging" chapter, where she's building out examples of how these pillars are accessible to everyone with or without religion and when keeping them in mind, we can harness continued meaning out of life as we grace new life scenarios.

These books together are kicking off my summer with thoughts, dreams and faith in continued learning.

Losing Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain in a single week to suicide brought up the grief spiral around me again as the echos of losing my bio-dad and brother, Kevin, to suicide resurfaced in new ways and pulled out the heartache of my mother's and other family members' also too-early deaths. But connecting the energy of something we can all manifest as a powerful tool to create any life we dream of, money, with access to understand how we make sure this brief life we lead on Earth is meaningful, I am appreciative of continued learning. And I'm so thankful to be surrounded by people who share what they are reading so I too can join the collective consciousness and thank God for this life I am leading... As well as make it as BADASS as I can imagine.

Now back to being a Badass At Making Money and get some work done for a few cool clients I'm appreciative to be able to help make their businesses stronger for this world and more fulfilling for them.

Lotsa Love,

Leah
